Welcome! My hope for this ECLECTIC CHANNEL is to provide a community of encouragement and ways to exchange ideas. I love reading your comments and ideas, and learn a lot from you!
I am passionate about homeschooling and share not only about which resources and curriculum we are using, but also about homeschool life in general.
I consider "planners" to be my hobby...don't ask me how many I have (unless you're from the planner community)!
I love the smell of a vintage book and sharing reviews of the latest books I've read (booktube!).
We have a small hobby farm with goats and chickens, and we do some homesteading (canning and freezing garden harvests). As I find productivity technology tips worth sharing, I may sprinkle those in as well.
And lastly, I share travel experiences as vlogs, as well sometimes.

Vintage Cinema Recommendations and Backlist TBR 🍁📚🎬 Perfect for Transitioning into Autumn
Movie and book choices for September are their own unique blend consisting of the lingering heat of summer but with the relief of cool, crisp mornings. I've collected a list of a few old movies that are perfect for the transition period into fall and I have ended up with a slightly long list of books that I am hoping to read this month. I’m doing a lot of readalongs and buddy reads for this month: Cozy Reader Book Club, Spinster September, and Comfy Cozy Book Club.

I didn't bring ANY physical books on my latest trip 😱

I took advantage of some alone time by doing a reading vlog in which I only read books on my kindle. Traveling with only a kindle certainly feels lighter and less cumbersome. My book choices were light and fun to balance out all the conference content I was consuming but also because I gravitate towards these types of books as we transition into autumn. AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: I READ EVERY REBECCA ROSS BOOK IN ONE YEAR (spoiler: I love her writing)
Переглядів 71Місяць тому
It's a wonderful experience to find a modern writer whom you, as a reader, enjoy so immensely. I picked up a Rebecca Ross book (A River Enchanted) last April and promptly fell in love. I next picked up her debut novel and realized that I had discovered a new favorite author. After reading all of her fiction works within a year (and collecting my own copies to keep on my shelf), I decided to sha...

Regency Era books written as historical fiction help get me in that Austen frame of mind, as do “retellings” that incorporate all our favorite (and not so favorite) Austen characters. Special Books for my Kids to Enjoy - Book shelf wealth?!

Special Books for my Kids to Enjoy - Book shelf wealth?!
Aw! I love how your kitty cat keeps trying to get your attention. ❤ I started watching the 1975 version of The Count of Monte Cristo and got interrupted and never finished it. I will have to go back to it. It was certainly more accurate than the 2002 film. 😂
Great recommendations! I'm interested in your thoughts on Spy Family. I used to read a lot of manga and it would be fun to try a new (to me) series. There are many series that truly should be read in order; Miss Read is not one of them, in my opinion. I read some of the Christmas books first before trying any of the series and it was fine to read them that way.
I remember reading Sidney Sheldon's "The Other Side of Midnight" back in the early 80's. I thought it was so good back then but after reading the synopsis I realize how problematic it is now. I still loved it though.
What a lovely view. Work conference sans kids and extra reading time sounds delightful. Oh my goodness, you homeschool, have a job and do UA-cam!?! Wow
I've never traveled with just my kindle; it's nice to have lots of choices. I usually bring old, banged up paperbacks on trips. 🙂
That's a great idea!
I have read the secret, book and scone society. I really enjoyed it. I'm now reading the 4th book Ink and Shadows which I didn't even know it was part of the series until I started reading it. I don't feel like you have to read the books in order. Although because I read the first book, I would like to read the other 2 books to get to know the main characters better.
I agree that it probably doesn’t have to be in order. I read the 3rd book first 😬
Some wonderful LFLs!
Thanks!
What a wonderful idea for a video! Where you live must be lovely… 👍🏻📚💖
Thank you! 😊
How To Stop Time is lovely! I enjoyed it quite a bit more than The Midnight Library.
Good to know!
Love how you made a 24 hour planning retreat for yourself- so fun. I’m still a big pen/paper planner but really should do a spreadsheet so I’m not repeating work over the years. My favorite part of planning is going through my home library pulling books or researching books to correlate w/ curriculum. So jealous of that teacher closet! My “teacher closet” is literally the floor of my closet where I set books aside so they don’t get lost in the rest of the house. My husband is not a fan of tripping over them daily🤣
This is the first year I've done this and could only make it work now that we're in the "older kids" phase. Having older kids is both wonderful and a bit sad... I love my paper planner but am all about automating as much as I can. And yes, I can see how a closet floor could be a challenge for keeping books organized. I'm sure you will figure something out :)
I’m running into older children running everywhere and our group time is changing, too. 😥♥️ It’s hard for this mom! 😂
Me too. I’m the chauffeur who is trying to live in the present and not be nostalgia already :/
I don't read many cozy mysteries these days, but I have recently enjoyed a few of Laura Levine's Jaine Austen mysteries. I've been wanting to try the Lady Hardcastle series as well as the Shady Hollow series. Thanks for the recommendations!!
I will look for the Levine works! Let me know if you read Hardcastle or Shady Hollow! Would love to know your thoughts.
Ooh I loved the Thirteenth Tale😂it was a five star for me, I’m looking for September by RP and can’t find it where I am😢 I also had the Whalebone Theatre on my tbr as well.. hmmm
I have become a ruthless DNF ‘er so maybe if I had gone further into Whalebone Theater I would have liked it more. I was also reading it as an ebook so that didn’t help. Can you find September at the library or maybe on sale on Kindle?
Hello! You randomly came up on my feed and this video came at just the right time. I e been in a reading slump for weeks and have t found anything that remotely sounds good to me… until now! I’ve ordered 3 of the books you suggested here! Thanks so much for your clear , concise description of each one.
That’s exciting! Good luck! I hope something helps to get you out of your slump. Reading slumps are THE WORST.
Songs of chaos book 4 is called Reckoning and the author revealed the cover recently.
Thank you!
If you enjoy historical fiction, Christian fiction or Biblical fiction, I would love to see content on those. Looking forward to your Literary Apothecary series.
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for the encouragement!
The Lady Hardcastle series are so sweet. I love the relationship between Lady Hardcastle and Flo. Great dry wit. 19:12
Couldn't agree more!
If I hadn’t read them, put them on my TBR. Loved the content in this video. Thank you so much.
Awww thank YOU so much! Glad I was helpful even to a voracious reader such as yourself.
I’ve read the entire Amelia Peabody series at least twice. Love them. 4:39
Wow, twice?! That’s marvelous!
Keisha introduced me to the Crime & Poetry series. I love it. 3:52
Me too!
In case you didn't know, Amanda Flower was a Librarian. All of her series are really well written.
I didn’t know that. Interesting.
Thanks for sharing this info! Being a librarian would explain a lot about how her works are structured!
This is great, thank you! I just read Divine Rivals this year and finished it in two days. I loved it so much. Immediately picked up Ruthless Vows and lived it just as much. Going to read Queens Rising and it is on KU!
Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think!
What a lovely birthday book haul! 🥳 I hope you enjoy Lady Hardcastle! ❤
I did enjoy it! It’s in a pile by the door to lend to a friend when I see her next week!
New subscriber and new book-Tuber myself! Loved this video!!
Yay! Welcome and thanks 😊
the phillip pullman edition 😍
I know! Lovely, right?
Love this video and used books!
I'm glad you enjoyed this! I love used books :)
Wonderful haul! Thanks for the mention and the shoutout for MW; I’ll tell you more from our conversation when you’ve finished the third Chadwick book! 😉 Also, Seven Days in Summer is one I’ve not read! It’s now on my TBR!
I may not get to it this summer, if you can believe it. So if you read it, let me know what you think!
Great haul! Never Let Me Go is wonderful. It's a whole other level from The Buried Giant, lol. You aren't missing much by skipping The Thirteenth Tale. I liked it overall, but there is some deviant and gross content in there that I could have done without.
Yeah, that's the feeling I got even close the beginning. It's such a shame because the plot idea sounds fascinating.
Do you have a link to the planner and inserts. You said 5x7 but I just got my cards and they are more like 5.5x9.
a5 Planner: amzn.to/4byG532 and inserts: amzn.to/3YhilO3
I have them both here as well: www.wilsonhillworks.com/blog/organizinghsenglish
@@WilsonHillWorks Thank you so much! This was really helpful!
Lovely haul! I’m most intrigued by the Psalms/Liturgies books.
Thanks!
I put my Berkey under the sink on either a small safe (in cognito) and it lifted up that way allowing for space for a mug. Cleaning stuff goes in bathrooms beneath sink. Works great
We have our trash can under the kitchen sink. Where do you keep your trash can?
Happy belated birthday! Your eReader looks so pretty. What a thoughtful family you have. ❤️
Thank you so much!
The Lady Hardcastle mysteries are awesome. 3:51 . Great video.
Good to know! Thanks 😊
Hello. Malcolm's List was written by Susanne Allain not by Megan Walker.
Thanks for the correction! I meant Miss Newbury's List!
Beautiful! 📸 📖🪻🌿🌺🌷🌿
Thank you!
It sucks when people like that guy you saw just don’t respect the idea of the libraries. I used to work in an outdoor garden and we had a couple free little libraries. When I tell you I personally stocked those libraries (out of my own pocket) multiple times with books about nature and animals and all kinds of things. And every single time, they all were GONE in a matter of days. No books put back in their place. I just hope that whoever took them really needed them and gave them a good home.
I agree! I’ve been finding more and more LFLs that have been cleared out and not refilled. I also hope that people who take and don’t replace are at least putting the books to good use!
Fellow Gene Stratton-Porter fans, have you read The Keeper of the Bees? Do NOT miss that one! 😉🌸🐝
I used to be a Rebecca Lynn until I took my maiden name as my last name when I got married. And yes, Keeper of the Bees is one of my favorite books.
@@WilsonHillWorks That’s so cool, your being a Rebecca Lynn, too. Lynn is my middle name:)
Loved the feel of this video and your dress!
Thank you so very much! I really appreciate your kind words.
Have you read The Secrets of Ormdale series? Very sweet, cozy Victorian dragon fantasy.
I've seen Wormwood Abbey but didn't realize it was a series or that it was a story about dragons. Thanks so much for the recommendation :) I can always count on your for good ideas!
I enjoyed Pembery: Mr. Darcy’s Dragon! I hope to read more!
Great! I am starting book 2 this week :)
I'm a newer subscriber and fellow UA-camr and I couldn't agree more, I love to immerse myself in my books, create that atmosphere, and live by what I am reading. Thank you for doing this video and for showing us that it can be done.
Welcome! So glad we are like-minded minded spirits on this book immersion journey.
Another fellow YTuber here and high school mom. You are on the right track! Best wishes on your new journey. 🌻
Thanks so much for your encouragement! High school is so different!
Fascinating- thanks for your tips and tricks!
Thanks Michael. I appreciate your encouragement!
We LOVE Little Women! So now we will have to read Little Men! Love the 9th grade choices. It's really nice to watch other moms ahead of me in grades.
Let me know what you think of Little Men! And yes, I watch moms with older high schoolers so I know how to prep for the future. Thanks for watching :)

Oh! That is so exciting! I hope so too :)
That's cool!
Thank you!
Looks so fun! And not too many people out there.
It is still - years later - our favorite national park experience!
I like the osbourne books for mysel f(i'm 57 LOL!)
Isn’t it great to see books you love? Feels like you’re seeing an old friend again 😊
@@WilsonHillWorks I never read them asa kid - had a 16 yr old cousin stay with me and she would c heck them out of the library and I was , um, those are kid books but she said how great they wre and I started looking through it and was a happy camper LOL!
This is such a fun video collab! I love that you're doing The Woman in White for Victober! I love Georgette Heyer's mysteries too so that'll be fun!
Yay! Hopefully you can join us soon :)
